*The Solo Haul Hook is not PPE, and should not be used in life supporting scenarios*
Bags hanging off the Solo Haul Hook should be backed up with a slip knot, which will catch the bags if they are knocked off the anchor, but is still releasable with haul line tension from above
Basic Configuration:
Clip your haul bag to the bottom hole of the Solo Haul Hook with a locking carabiner. Hang the hook off a fixed anchor point. Clip your haul line to the top hole of the hook with a locking carabiner. Tie the haul line to the anchor, just above the hook, with a slip knot. The hook fully supports the weight of the bags, but it releasable away from the anchor when pulled upward by the upper hole.
Tips for success:
- Hang the hook off movable elements (chain, rings, carabiners), not anchor points fixed rigidly to the wall (bolt hangers, eye bolts). The jog of the hook arm may bind if hooked to rigid portions of the anchor.
- Back up the Solo Haul Hook with a slip knot to catch the bags in the case the hook pops off the anchor.
- When possible (if your bag is light) manually test the release action of the hook before leaving the anchor.
- Store your haul rope in a rope bag, or in another tidy manner, so that it does not tangle with the bag and prematurely release the hook from the anchor
Performance Assessment for Various Anchor Configurations:
Our Solo Haul Hook should be used with care to increase security and avoid binding. Below is a list of common anchor setups and their impact on the functionality of this novel haul hook shape.
(Backup slip knots omitted for visual clarity)
5/16" (8mm) Chain Anchor
Excellent performance. Hook will release from any upward haul angle. Hook arm jog adds some security for this size chain link.

3/8" (10mm) Chain Anchor
Great performance. Hook will release from any upward haul angle. Hook arm jog adds some security for this size chain link, but may slip through.

Rappel Ring Anchor
Good performance. Hook will release from any upward haul angle. Hook arm jog does not add security with this size link. Be extra careful of knocking the bags off the anchor.

Quicklink Anchor (5/16"/8mm and larger)
Good performance. Hook will release from any upward haul angle. Hook arm jog does not add security with this size link. Be extra careful of knocking the bags off the anchor.

Glue In/Eyebolt Anchor
Okay performance. Hook will release from specific haul angles up and to the side, away from the hook opening. Hook will bind in the anchor at other haul angles. Hook arm jog adds some security for this type of bolt.

Bolt Hanger Anchor
Okay performance. Hook will release from most, but not all, upward haul angles. Hook will bind in the bolt hanger if the haul angle is up and to the left. Hook arm jog adds some security for a hanger.
